Homosexuality in the bible

2 09 2008

As a heterosexual man I fully believe that the bible deters homosexuality on the same level as adultery and some may say that it is the work of the devil, but it is very interesting to view a really strong article written on the BBC website about the current split in the church between pro-gay and anti-gay believers. Well worth a read and certainly starts the brain cells thinking. View the article.

“Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. And in the church God has appointed first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, also those having gifts of healing, those able to help others, those with gifts of administration, and those speaking in different kinds of tongues.”  (1 Corinthians 12:27-28)(NIV)

All I want is YOU!

22 02 2008

cheeseI am well into the 3rd week of Lent and still dedicating my breakfast and evening cheese and biscuits to God. With so much going on I have found that I am not asking God for help with Lent but am giving my offerings. We must remember as Christians we have accepted God into our life and have allowed him to embrace our lives, but I still have much work to do for God to accept me into his life.

It is interesting to hear non-Christians say that they are not ready to accept God in to their lives. But wait, how wrong can they be! We have to work at being a Christian on a daily basis and make time no matter what it takes to build a friendship with the Lord. To build a relationship with God, a Christian needs to communicate with God, meditate with God, be honest with God, share in values with God, have Faith in God and most of all have a friendship with God. Then and only then, can we really say that we have a relationship with God.

Is it me or can anyone else see the recurring word in this blog; although the word God is used on many occasions the word I am actually looking for is ‘with’. Put simply we should share with God and not just provide a one-way traffic link that means we put everything to God but don’t look for the signs and answers.

Lent

12 02 2008

Jesus on Cross - LentIt’s a week into Lent now and following my decision to give up breakfast and evening snacks for 40 days, so far so good. Before becoming a Christian I did not really understand the true meaning of Lent; basically a second opportunity for those who had failed in their New Year’s resolutions to get it right this time was probably a fair estimate of my thoughts on the subject.  But trust me when I say that after a week of putting my faith in God to replace me with what I have chosen not to indulge in means that  I am fully signed up to Lent.

Definition of Lent:

“The 40 day period immediately preceding Easter Sunday. For the Christian Church, a time of preparation and repentance prior to the celebration of Easter.”

It was amazing when I did a search on a definition for Lent and realised that even the definitions out there on places like Wikipedia.or Google Definitions are not really showing the full picture. I am undertaking Lent as an opportunity to thank the Lord for being great and thanking him for providing us at times when we thought there was no way out, for instance debt. We did a tally up a little while ago and realised that we had 8 big debts outstanding. Putting this bluntly that equates to 8 sins in our life on a daily basis, and that’s before we have even got out of bed! So since the beginning of 2008 we have been putting our finances to God and asking him for both help and understanding in this period. Once again God has answered our prayers and helped us clear 6 of these sins in just 2 months. Thank you God. Amen.

One final thought about the period of Lent that definitions don’t discuss – During this period we should remember the fact that Jesus carried that cross in order for us to continue to sin today!
